Whacking Daze
Finally we can start again and we are looking so much forward to it!
Therefore: Do you also feel like partying on a Tuesday? Or wearing your favorite outfit
to dance around in the supermarket, when you do your shopping?
Don’t worry, you now have the opportunity to come to Whacking Wednesdays
at KBH+. It’s completely free and you will experience the dance style whacking, which pays tribute to the everyday party and drama of life. We are gonna work on arm technique, posing, punking (storytelling and behaviour) and footwork.
We begin with an hour of exchange, where a dancer from the community will share their story with the dance and plan the rest of the class. The last hour will be a session, which typically involves cyphers, soul train, freestyle training and more. Here you can train what you wanna improve or do some of the things that have been shown in the exchange.
Later our vision is to invite teachers from outside Denmark for workshops including making events with battles. We are so excited!

About whacking: Whacking is a dance style, which originates from the clubs in L.A. in the 70’s. It arised as a response to the heavy oppression of especially black queer/gay persons. Through movement they found a way to express themselves in the clubs, where they could be free. They created whacking, at that time referred to as punking, as an “expression from oppression” (cite: Viktor Manoel). Later on the dance style was known from the american music/dance tv-program “Soultrain” with primarily black dancers in the 70’s. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punking
